Mentoring & More at Moritz, supported by the Baker Hostetler Endowment for Professional Development, serves as a bridge between the theory and the practice of law. Students learn by example from mentors who care deeply about improving law and its administration, have high expectations for themselves and their colleagues in the profession, and are willing to help guide those who follow them into the profession.
Program Goals
- Introducing students to the legal profession and providing opportunities to engage with lawyers practicing in a variety of areas
- Creating opportunities for building professional networks and support systems outside of law school
- Reinforcing the importance of professionalism and civility in the legal profession
Mentoring & More at Moritz follows a group mentoring model. Typically mentoring groups are comprised of two mentors and up to five students. Throughout the academic year, mentoring groups are invited to luncheons held at the Moritz Barrister Club. Mentoring and More at Moritz luncheons serve as a springboard for encouraging continued, informal contact between students and mentors. Mentoring programming begins in late August/early September and mentoring groups are encouraged to connect monthly throughout the academic year (August-May) to build upon and deepen the mentoring relationship.
Student Applications
Mentoring & More at Moritz is open to all Moritz students. Incoming and current Moritz students interested in participating in the mentoring program must complete the Mentoring & More at Moritz interest application. Mentoring group matches will be made over the summer, and mentoring group assignments and other mentoring announcements will be sent to the email address provided on the student application. Mentoring applications are due Friday, August 11, 2023.
