Michael Franczak ‘95 serves as a commissioner for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. “My clients are not calling me in as a mediator because I’m a subject-matter expert, they’re calling me in because there’s something in terms of their people, their process, that’s getting tripped up, that’s creating barriers for them to have meaningful dialogue to resolve their issues,” he said.Read more


  • Kreg Allison ’02 named director of Division of Real Estate, Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation

    Kreg Allison '02 was unanimously confirmed as director of the Division of Real Estate for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He was appointed by Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner in January 2016. In his position Allison serves as the head regulator for the real estate industry in Illinois overseeing professional education, licensure, regulation, and discipline for over 80,000 licensees working in seven professions. He also manages a large government agency with approximately 40 employees operating out of offices in Chicago, Des Plaines, and Springfield with a most recent budget of more than $8 million.

  • Anthony M. Sharett ’02 named vice president, bank legal for Nationwide Bank

    Anthony M. Sharett '02, formally a partner with BakerHostetler, is now the vice president, bank legal for Nationwide Bank, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance, a Fortune 69 company. In this role, Sharett is the general counsel for the $6.5 billion bank, including participation on the bank strategic leadership team.

  • Joseph Infante ’05 named among “40 Under Forty” by Grand Rapids Business Journal

    Joseph Infante ’05 was named among the Grand Rapids Business Journal’s “40 Under Forty.” He was selected as a business leader in the community, not only for his outstanding work in law, and in particular craft beverage law, but also for the outstanding work he does for Hospice of West Michigan. This year, he and his wife Niki co-chaired the successful premiere fundraiser, Hospice of Michigan Barley, BBQ & Beats, which raised nearly $250,000. He was profiled in the Grand Rapids Business Journal in October.

  • Kaminski discusses drones, consumer privacy at FTC workshop event

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) held a Fall Technology Series workshop on Drones Oct. 13 that looked at consumer privacy concerns surrounding the use of unmanned aircraft. Professor Margot Kaminski, an expert in the areas of cyber, intellectual property, and privacy law, shared her expertise on the subject as part of panel looking at how to address privacy concerns raised by the use of drones. Other topics covered on the agenda included a panel on whether or not drones raise a unique set of privacy concerns, a presentation from the FTC’s Office of Technology Research & Investigation, and another presentation on consumer perceptions of drones.

    On Nov. 18, 2016, the Ohio State Law Journal will host a symposium on “The Expanding First Amendment.” The symposium will bring together legal scholars from across the country to explore the extent and consequences of the purported recent expansion of First Amendment law. There will be four panels discussing: What Is Speech Now?; Speech, Association, and Democracy; Speech and Public Health; and Speech and Anti-Discrimination Law. Click here to register.
