A passion for negotiation led him to start his own businesses helping entrepreneurs with their basic business needs as well as building and maintaining successful relationships with their business partners. Two moot court teams from Moritz compete at prestigious national competitions

Congratulations to the Moritz College of Law moot court teams who recently competed in two of the most prestigious moot court competitions in the country – the National Moot Court Competition in New York City and the Andrews Kurth Kenyon Moot Court Championships in Houston. Both teams delivered outstanding performances, according to their coaches.Read more

Steve Magas ’82

Steve Magas ’82 is known as the bike lawyer. He's built a practice around advocating for cyclists' rights and providing legal counsel in cases involving bicycles, including personal injury and wrongful death cases. As Magas likes to tell his clients, “from nine to five I represent cyclists and I make a living doing that, and then from five to nine I’m an advocate, I sit on boards and work on these advocacy issues and try to help out the world of cycling.”Read more

  • Laura Ephlin ’91 named co-chair of new corporate counsel section of the Akron Bar Association

    Laura Ephlin ‘91 has been selected as co-chair of the newly formed corporate counsel section of the Akron Bar Association, which aims to better meet the needs of counsel serving in in-house and non-traditional roles. Ephlin is the director of accreditation and regulatory affairs at Akron Children’s Hospital.

  • David L. Yaussy ’84 appointed Kanawha County Bar Association’s Legal Aid of West Virginia representative

    David L. Yaussy '84, a member at Spilman Thomas & Battle PLLC, was appointed by the Kanawha County Bar Association to serve a three-year term as its representative on Legal Aid of West Virginia’s board of directors. Yaussy, who serves as chair of Spilman Thomas & Battle's environmental practice group, is a longtime Legal Aid volunteer, serving as a pro bono attorney in dozens of client cases.

  • Data Points: Ideas on Data, Law and Society with Prof. Peter Swire

    Join the Program on Data and Governance on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, for the premiere of the program’s newest lecture series, “Data Points: Ideas on Data, Law and Society.” Peter Swire, the Nancy J. and Lawrence P. Huang Professor of Law and Ethics at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Scheller College of Business, will deliver a talk on “Privacy and Government Cross-Border Requests for Data.”

    Professor Swire will present a paper that examines the different ways in which American and European Union law govern law enforcement requests for personal data that a company holds overseas. His paper argues that, while each jurisdiction provides meaningful protections against government overreach, the differences between these systems have created unnecessary obstacles to law enforcement cross-border data requests.Read more

  • Walker paper wins national award

    Professor Christopher Walker won the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) 2017 Scholarly Papers Competition for law school faculty members who have been teaching for five years or fewer. Walkers’ winning paper was entitled “Legislating in the Shadows.” The prestigious competition is more than 30 years old, and Walker presented his paper at the AALS Annual Meeting in San Francisco in January 2017.
