Kristen M. Blankley

Kristen M. Blankley is a 2004 graduate of The Michael E. Moritz College of Law, where she graduated with a Certificate in Dispute Resolution. Since her graduation, she has been active in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution, both in her practice as well as in her scholarship. Ms. Blankley is currently a litigation associate with Squire, Sanders and Dempsey L.L.P. in Columbus, Ohio.

In her practice, Ms. Blankley is hard-pressed to think of any of her cases that have not involved participation in dispute resolution processes on behalf of her clients. She routinely serves as an advocate for her clients in mediation and arbitration procedures, as well as in the commonplace negotiation that occurs in all civil litigation. In addition, she has had the opportunity to litigate issues relating to the enforceability of agreements to arbitrate as well as the collateral estoppel effect of arbitration awards in subsequent litigation.

Ms. Blankley also actively publishes in the field of dispute resolution, publishing on arbitration, mediation, and ethics in ADR issues. Her recent publications include a co-authored piece with OSU Professor Sarah Cole regarding consumer arbitration and a co-authored piece with fellow OSU alumni Emily Root and John Minter regarding multi-jurisdictional ethics issues arising in multi-state ADR practice. She also has a forthcoming article regarding the potential for interlocutory appeals in class action arbitration procedures. In addition to writing, Ms. Blankley is a regular speaker at the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution annual meetings.

Ms. Blankley would not be so involved in dispute resolution processes had it not been for the opportunities Moritz provided her. Pursuing the Certificate in Dispute Resolution and receiving the training in mediation and arbitration have all helped prepare her for practice and representing her clients in these forums. Additionally, her professors and mentors at Moritz have always encouraged her and provided support in her scholarly endeavors, both during her time in law school and in the professional world.
