Professor Katrina Lee named Morgan E. Shipman Outstanding Professor

The Class of 2022 selected Professor Katrina Lee as the Morgan E. Shipman Outstanding Professor of the Year. At hooding, Professor Lee was presented with the award and had the honor of addressing the Class of 2022. Morgan Shipman was a professor of law at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. He taught at the college for 39 years and was an unprecedented five-time recipient of the college’s “Outstanding Professor of the Year” award. In 2004, the award was renamed the “Morgan E. About Professor Lee

Professor Katrina Lee joined the faculty at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2011 following an accomplished career in complex litigation spanning more than 12 years. Professor Lee has represented Fortune 100 companies in all litigation phases, including discovery, trial, appeal, and dispute resolution proceedings. At a national law firm, she was elevated to equity partner in her seventh year of practice. Professor Lee writes and presents on topics related to the business of law; negotiations legal ethics; legal writing; and mentoring. She is the author of several scholarly articles and the business of law coursebook, The Legal Career: Knowing the Business, Thriving in Practice. The second edition was released in May 2020. Professor Lee brings to her work leadership experience at a law firm and in the legal community.

Professor Lee serves as Immediate Past President of the Association of Legal Writing Directors. She is a board member of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Central Ohio and Chair of its Mentorship Committee. While a corporate litigator, she chaired her law firm’s recruiting committee and ran its San Francisco office summer associate program. She served on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of San Francisco and as an advisory board member and mentor in the BASF School- To-College diversity pipeline program.

Professor Lee is the Director of the Program on Dispute Resolution. She teaches Business of Law, Legal Analysis and Writing 1 and 2, Legal Negotiations, and LLM Legal Writing. She taught Business Negotiations in a Global Environment in the 2017 University of Oxford-Ohio State University Summer Law Program. Professor Lee serves as a Faculty Advisor for The Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution. She is the Director of the LLM Legal Writing program.

Professor Lee triple-majored at the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 1994, and received her JD from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997. She is a member of the California State Bar.
