Moritz mock trial quartet earns honors at All Star National Challenge
The mock trial team of Brooke Zentmeyer, Joseph van‘t Hooft, Jessica Akerman and Joseph Blythe just missed out on a national championship, but still earned a pair of individual honors in the All Star National Challenge Moot Court Competition.
The quartet missed being crowned “National Champions” by only two ballots of a divided, seven-judge panel. They argued the case six different times in four days and refined their arguments and techniques as they progressed.
All four students earned high praise from the judges and individual honors for their advocacy. Joseph van‘t Hooft received Honorable Mention as an Outstanding Advocate and Jessica Akerman was named one of three Best Advocates.
Evan Poole, a 2020 Moritz alum and attorney with the Franklin County Public Defender’s Office, assisted in coaching the team along with Professor Elizabeth I. Cooke
