Martha Chamallas is a Distinguished University Professor Emerita and the Robert J. Lynn Chair in Law Emerita. She is a leading scholar in torts, feminist legal theory, and employment discrimination law. Professor Chamallas writes on gender, race, and social justice issues in tort law and is the author of The Measure of Injury: Race, Gender, and Tort Law  (with Jennifer B. Wriggins) (NYU Press, 2010) and Feminist Judgments: Rewritten Torts Opinions (with Lucinda M. Finley) (Cambridge University Press, 2020). Her treatises – Introduction to Feminist Legal Theory (3d ed. 2003) and Principles of Employment Discrimination Law (2d ed. 2023)—survey legal developments and major scholarship in the two fields. She has authored more than 60 articles, chapters, and essays in law journals such as the Michigan Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, the University of Chicago Law Review, UCLA Law Review, and the Southern California Law Review.  

Prior to joining Ohio State in 2002, Professor Chamallas served on the faculties of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, the Louisiana State University Law Center, and the University of Iowa College of Law. She also served as the chair of the Women’s Studies Program at the University of Iowa. Professor Chamallas received her J.D. from Louisiana State University Law Center and her B.A. from Tufts University.  

Professor Chamallas was the recipient of the Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2006, the University Distinguished Scholar Award in 2013, and was named Distinguished University Professor in 2021. She is a member of the American Law Institute.
