The Reference Librarians can assist you in locating information in the collection or outside of the Library. They can help you use specific resources. However, they cannot give you legal advice or provide an interpretation of any legal document, or read definitions of legal terms or parts of legal documents over the phone. Reference Librarians staff the Reference Desk on the second floor of the Law Library and also may be contacted by telephone at (614) 292-9463 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The following patrons may check out books from the Law Library:
- OSU faculty, staff and students with a valid BuckID card;
- Faculty, staff and students from OhioLINK institutions;
- Ohio attorneys and law librarians, College of Law alumni, and OSU President’s Club members are eligible for Law Courtesy Cards. Please ask at the Circulation Desk to apply for this card. You may print out a Courtesy Card Application and bring it to the Circulation Desk.
All patrons must be sure to return or renew their materials on time because the Law Library may charge late fines. Some materials, including reporters, statutes, reference materials, looseleaf services, multi-volume sets, periodicals and microforms, may be used only within the Law Library.
The Reserve Room is located directly behind the Circulation Desk and Reference Office. The Reserve Room contains recent issues of law reviews, newspapers and select current magazines, hornbooks and nutshells, a core collection of books on Ohio law, and audiovisuals. Patrons are welcome to use these materials within the Reserve Room. Patrons wishing to use reserve items in other parts of the Law Library can check them out at the Circulation Desk for a period of two hours. Overdue reserve items are billed $2.00 the first hour past due and $5.00 for each additional hour.
Fines for the Law Library, OSU campus, and OhioLink materials may be paid online via OSU Libraries My Record.
Interlibrary loan is available to other libraries with some exceptions. For policies and charges, please send an email to the Circulation Department. Our OCLC code is OHL.
Through the Library Catalog, patrons can locate materials owned by all OSU Libraries. Patrons can access the Library Catalog from the library’s public computers by clicking on the “Library Catalog” icon.
Printing and Scanning
Printing is available for the cost $0.04 per page for black and white documents and $0.15 per page for color documents. The printers operate on a card swipe system using BuckID cards. You may obtain a BuckID card at the circulation desk and add money to the card by making a deposit online at buckid.osu.edu. Copies may be made by using the book and document scanner in the library. Scanned documents can be saved to a flash drive or sent to an email address. If a hard copy is desired, the scanned documents can be printed using a public terminal.
