Brigette Burnell, ’02, is General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of The Gorman-Rupp Company, an Ohio-based global pump manufacturer that is a publicly-traded company on the NYSE MKT Exchange. Gorman-Rupp has operations and employees on six continents and in ten states.
Prior to joining Gorman-Rupp, Burnell served as Corporate Counsel for Red Capital Group, LLC, a real-estate investment bank in Columbus, Ohio and a subsidiary of ORIX USA. In her role at Red Capital, she oversaw all legal matters for the subsidiary, including negotiation and documentation of loans made by Red Capital, supervision and administration of corporate governance matters, compliance with governmental regulations, and oversight of litigation against the company.
Burnell began her legal career at Jones Day, where she worked as an Associate from 2002-2011. During her time with Jones Day, she spent two years working in the firm’s Hong Kong, China office. Burnell’s practice consisted primarily of corporate transactional work in the areas of secured lending, real estate, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, joint venture formation, taxation and complex foreign ownership structures, and bankruptcy. Her clients included U.S. and Asian institutional investors, investment banks, public corporations, private companies and state owned enterprises. Burnell was also an active member of the firm’s recruiting efforts.
Burnell earned an J.D. from the Moritz College of Law in 2002, an M.B.A. from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business in 2002 and a B.S. in engineering from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1998.
