General Counsel Series with EY (Ernst & Young) Senior Counsel

Philip Lauderdale is a Senior Counsel at Ernst & Young (“EY), in New York City. EY is a multinational professional services company, one of the largest in the world.

He will discuss his work as senior technology and technology services counsel, and will also discuss what students can do to plan for a career as an in-house attorney.

Philip’s practice at EY focuses on negotiating technology and services engagements with other large companies, and advising EY on related legal issues. In addition, he provides primary legal support to EY’s blockchain and “software as a service” businesses in the United States. Philip sits on the EY advisory committee that is tasked with the development of EY’s Managed Services business practice, where he provides advice to senior leadership on both legal and business strategy and issues impacting the business.

Prior to joining EY, Philip spent eight years at IBM in a variety of different legal roles. These included lead counsel and negotiator in large and complex technology services, cloud, artificial intelligence, and enterprise software engagements. During his time at IBM, Philip also severed as counsel to IBM’s business process outsourcing business in addition to advising on several acquisitions and divestitures.

Lauderdale earned a J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, and a B.A. from Ohio State, where he was a member of the varsity hockey team
