Biography
Professor Katherine Silver Kelly joined the Moritz College of Law faculty in 2012. Prior to joining Moritz, Professor Kelly served as a judicial attorney for Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer at the Summit County Court of Common Pleas and then as the director of Academic Success Programs at the University of Akron School of Law.
Professor Kelly teaches Legal Analysis and Writing (LAW) I and II, and Legal Analysis Workshop, and is the director of the Academic Support Program where she is responsible for Moritz’s bar exam support services. She was awarded Morgan E. Shipman Outstanding Professor award in 2016, and in 2017 received the Ohio State University Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching. She is also the faculty advisor for the Black Law Student Association.
Outside of Moritz, Professor Kelly serves on the executive council of the Ohio State University Academy of Teaching, and as a university mentor for the University Institute for Teaching and Learning. Professor Kelly is a member of the Bar Advocacy Committee of the Association of Academic Support Educators and and she is the creator of the Bar Exam Wizard blog. She also serves on the Berea College Alumni Executive Council, is a mentor in the Ohio Supreme Court Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program, and a soccer and track coach for Special Olympics.
Professor Kelly is a graduate of Berea College, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Akron School of Law, where she graduated cum laude. She graduated from Berea with a BA in history, earned her MA in education from the University of Kentucky and before attending law school was an award-winning economics and government teacher.
