Blue Jackets Director of Legal Affairs Peter Lovins – February 28, 2019
On Thursday, February 28 (2:30 – 3:30 p.m.), Sports and Society will host Peter Lovins, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ director of legal affairs. Lovins will talk about the potential career marriage between sports and the law, including corporate partnership contracts (sponsorship, premium seating, food & beverage, ticketing), immigration, workers’ compensation, hockey operations employment contracts, minor league affiliation, sweepstakes and promotions, intellectual property registration and enforcement, premise incidents and liability, and litigation.
Beyond his day-to-day responsibilities, Lovins also shares his passion of sport, law, and diversity, gender and LGBTQ issues through public speaking and writing. He is co-founder and board member of the Family Pride Network, a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 to connect, support, and educate LGBTQ families and prospective parents in central Ohio.
While a law student at the Ohio State University Mortiz College of Law, he served as president of the Sports & Entertainment Law Association and on the Board of OutLaws; published a blog titled “Wide Rights,” providing information and commentary on gay rights and the sports industry; and volunteered at Kaleidoscope Youth Center, an after-school drop-in center for LGBTQ youth.
