The Honorable Jeffrey S. Sutton
The Honorable Jeffrey S. Sutton serves on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Judge Sutton was previously a partner with the law firm of Jones Day and served as State Solicitor of the State of Ohio. In his career as an advocate, he argued twelve cases in the United States Supreme Court and numerous cases in the state supreme courts and federal courts of appeal. He also was a law clerk to the Honorable Lewis F. Powell, Jr. (Ret.), the Honorable Antonin Scalia, and the Honorable Thomas J. Meskill.
From 2012 to 2016, Judge Sutton served as Chair of the Federal Judicial Conference Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure. He has also served on the Advisory Committee on Appellate Rules, appointed first by Chief Justice Rehnquist in 2005 and subsequently as Chair by Chief Justice Roberts in 2009. Since 2006, Judge Sutton has been a member of the American Law Institute and he currently serves on their Executive Council.
