Biography
Efthimios Parasidis is a nationally recognized expert in health law and bioethics. He holds The Kara J. Trott Endowed Professorship in Law, maintains a joint appointment with the College of Public Health, and is a faculty affiliate with the College of Medicine’s Center for Bioethics. Professor Parasidis teaches courses in health law, bioethics, and intellectual property; first year law courses that include property and torts; and a seminar on law and political economy.
A prolific scholar with over fifty publications, Professor Parasidis’ work has appeared in top journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Public Health, and American Journal of Bioethics, among others. He is co-author of a leading graduate-level course book on the ethics and regulation of research with human subjects, and has a book on military medical ethics under contract with Oxford University Press.
Prior to joining the Ohio State faculty, Professor Parasidis was an assistant professor at the Center for Health Law Studies at Saint Louis University. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New York under Eliot Spitzer and Andrew Cuomo, where he handled cases in state and federal courts at trial and appellate levels. Professor Parasidis worked as an associate at Jones Day and a senior associate at Dickstein Shapiro, and is of counsel with the boutique law firm of Salzano, Ettinger, Lampert, & Wilson LLP. During the coronavirus pandemic, he served pro bono on several state, local, and university pandemic response advisory committees.
Professor Parasidis is an appointed member of the National Institutes of Health research ethics committee that examines complex and emerging issues in clinical data science. He also serves as an Ethical, Legal, and Societal Issues Team Member on DARPA’s Measuring Biological Aptitude program, and served as a law and bioethics consultant to the U.S. Air Force. Professor Parasidis has received several grants for his research, including from The Greenwall Foundation, Fulbright Foundation, and Robert B. Silvers Foundation.
