Senator Portman was elected in 2010. He is often sought-after by leadership for his extensive budgeting and government affairs experience. He serves on the Senate Committee on the Budget, Senate Committee on Finance, Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. From 1993-2005, Portman was a U.S. Representative for the Ohio’s 2nd district, authoring more than a dozen pieces of legislation that were passed into law. Under President George W. Bush, Portman served as the U.S. Trade Representative and as the director of the Office of Management and Budget. Portman hails from Cincinnati and started his career as White House counsel and director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs under President George H.W. Bush.
