The Compliance Externship course provides opportunities for Moritz students to obtain hands-on experience working on regulatory and compliance matters at The Ohio State University, sponsored by the Office of University Compliance and Integrity. Each semester, up to 12 students will be assigned to work throughout the university in various areas including: athletics; conflicts of interest and ethics; environmental health and safety; financial aid; information security and privacy; institutional equity; policies, public records, and research; The Clery Act; and the Medical Center.
The Compliance Externship course consists of both fieldwork and coursework. Students typically spend an average of nine hours per week doing fieldwork at their designated placement throughout the semester. In addition to fieldwork, students will meet as a class four times per semester. These class sessions introduce students to regulatory and compliance work and provide the opportunity to learn from several guest speakers. The Compliance Externship course is graded on a Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory basis.
Application and Placement Process
Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Once enrolled in the Compliance Externship course, students will be asked to rank their compliance area preferences. The Office of University Compliance and Integrity will then notify students of their specific placements within the university. Students with specific questions about pursuing or obtaining a compliance externship should contact Chris Glaros (glaros.3@osu.edu) or Jessica Tobias (tobias.80@osu.edu) for more information.
