Bryan H. Choi is jointly appointed to the College of Law and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. His scholarship focuses on software safety, the challenges to constructing a workable software liability regime, and data privacy.  

At Moritz, Professor Choi teaches patent law, intellectual property, law of cyberspace, and torts. His research has appeared in leading academic journals such as the Harvard Journal of Law and Technology, the Washington Law Review, and the Texas Law Review Online.  

Prior to joining Ohio State, Professor Choi was a Faculty Fellow at the Center for Technology, Innovation and Competition (CTIC) at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Before that, he served as the Director of Law and Media at the Information Society Project (ISP) at Yale Law School. 

In 2021, Professor Choi was awarded a National Science Foundation grant for interdisciplinary research to develop novel technical approaches to assuring accountability of safety-critical software systems and examine new legal approaches to incorporating state-of-the-art advances in software accountability. He serves in several roles and on committees involved in advancing computer science and law. Recent roles include Finance Co-Chair of the ACM Symposium on Computer Science and Law; Steering Committee member of the CS+Law Workshop series; Organizing Committee member of the Cybersecurity Law Scholars Conference; Steering Committee member of the Roundtable on Computer Science and Law (UPenn); and co-organizer of the AAAI Bridge Program on AI and Law.
