Professor Ric Simmons has been selected to serve on an 18-member task force, chaired by Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Stephen L. McIntosh ‘83, that will examine potential changes to Ohio’s grand jury system in the wake of controversy over fatal police shootings.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, a task force appointed by Gov. John Kasich recommended that the Supreme Court review whether changes to the grand jury process could foster greater public trust in the review of officer conduct during use-of-force incidents.

Other members of the task force include judges, state lawmakers, a police chief, a defense lawyer, and other professors of law. The group is being asked to produce its recommendations on the matter by June 15.
