Professor David Stebenne, who recently published his book, “Promised Land: How the Rise of the Middle Class Transformed America, 1929-1968,” was recently featured with an article on the History News Network, a George Washington University publication.

In his article titled “Re-stabilizing the Middle Class and the Poor: Lessons from the 1930s,” Stebenne discusses the current unemployment rate caused by COVID-19 and what lessons we can learn from the Great Depression era.

“Like the changes in where black people live, changes in the status of women mean that an effective response to high unemployment is not only urgently needed – it also needs to be updated to reflect new social realities,” he said.
