Berman appointed to capital punishment task force

November 3, 2011 | Faculty

Professor Douglas A. Berman has been tapped for a joint task force examining whether Ohio’s death penalty is administered in the most fair and judicious manner possible.

Berman, the Robert J. Watkins/Procter & Gamble Professor of Law at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, is one of two professors named to the task force this week by the Supreme Court of Ohio and the Ohio State Bar Association.

He is an expert on criminal sentencing and capital punishment, and journalists with national media outlets often call upon him as a source for stories about those topics. Berman also is the sole creator and author of the widely read Sentencing Law and Policy blog, which was the first blog cited by the U.S. Supreme Court. His posts have been cited in numerous appellate and district court rulings, in addition to federal and state courts around the country.
