Robert Bilott’s (’90) battle against the DuPont Chemical Company began in the summer of 1999 when he filed a lawsuit against DuPont for poisoning the water in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

More than 20 years later, the ongoing battle with the chemical company has been featured in a New York Times article, which was then turned into the motion-picture Dark Waters, starring Mark Ruffalo as Bilott.

Bilott was recently featured in a Forbes article recapping his ongoing efforts against DuPont.

“It sounds simplistic, but you just have to be willing to listen to people with an open mind and not in the context of some self-created construct in which the data has to fit into a certain peg or you don’t pay any attention to it, or it has to come to you a certain way,” he said. “You’ve got to be willing to reassess the whole thing if you need to.”
