Moritz alum and current Akron Municipal Court Magistrate Jennifer Towell  ’00, was recently featured in an article by The Akron Legal News. Towell, who started her current position in August of 2019, discussed her career over the last two decades, including her experiences as a JAG Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.

She was stationed in Washington D.C. during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and told The Akron Legal News that her experience as a JAG Lieutenant helped prepare her for her current position in Akron.

“In a way serving as a magistrate is a lot like being in the military since it is a public service role,” Towell said. “I split my time on the bench with Magistrate Kani Hightower. I primarily hear eviction, small claims, revivor and garnishment cases. I find a lot of value and satisfaction in interfacing with the public every day and doing my part to ensure that anyone who comes before me feels justice has been served.”
