John T. Mills ’73 named 2020 Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipient
The Moritz College of Law Alumni Society has named John T. Mills ’73, the Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient. The award is given annually to a Moritz College of Law graduate for exceptional achievement or outstanding service to the college or community
John Mills has had a notable career which includes exceptional achievements as Chief Financial Officer for Marathon Oil Corporation from January 2002 until his retirement in December 2003. He has served in several leadership roles including: Chairman at Horizon Offshore, Inc., General Partner for Regency Energy Partners LP, and Vice President-Tax at USX Corp. His board service includes CONSOL Energy, Inc., CNX, the Ohio State Bar Association, The Financial Executives Institute, and Cal Dive International Inc., a marine contractor providing manned diving, derrick, pipelay and pipe burial services to the offshore oil and natural gas industry, where he served as lead independent director, and as a member of the audit, compensation, and corporate governance and nominating committees. In 2011, he attended the Harvard Business School program, Making Corporate Boards More Effective. At Moritz, John has served as a valued member of National Council, the Program on Law and Leadership’s advisory board, the College’s Time and Change campaign committee, and as a guest lecturer for our students. He and his wife, Dorothy, are founding donors of the Entrepreneurial Business Law Clinic at Moritz as well as loyal supporter of the Justice for Children project. They supported the construction of the College’s Barrister Club and established a scholarship to support a law student with demonstrated financial need in 2016.
