Former Nevada Governor, Brian Sandoval (’89) elected President of the University of Nevada
A Moritz alum and the former Governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval (’89) was recently named the next president of the University of Nevada. He is the university’s 17th president and the first hispanic president in the school’s history.
Before Sandoval served two terms as Nevada’s governor from 2011-2019, he served as U.S. District Court judge for the District of Nevada from 2005-2009. He earned his bachelors degree from the University of Nevada before attending Moritz.
“I am extremely humbled and deeply honored to be given the opportunity by the Nevada System of Higher Education and the Board of Regents to lead our University and my alma mater into the future,” Sandoval said. “The University and its people are the bedrock of our community. The work going forward will be to make our University an even better institution, building on the visionary legacy of our 146-year history.”
