Moritz Alumni Award-winners announced

The Ohio State University will honor some of its most illustrious and compassionate alumni during Reunion Weekend, held Oct. 18-20 in Columbus.

There is still time to register for the weekend’s activities, which include a cocktail reception, dinner, and Moritz Alumni Awards Ceremony on Friday and a spectacular tailgate on the Drinko Hall lawn Saturday prior to the Ohio State-Iowa football game.

Alumnus teaches 56,000 the dangers of sexting

When Richard L. Mann ’71 started his career as the State Counsel for the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators, the biggest problem principals faced was the length of students’ hair.

“It was right around the Vietnam War, and kids were becoming hippies,” Mann said. “The school conduct code said your hair couldn’t be longer than a certain point."

Today, it is sexting.

Estates attorney contributes to Cleveland arts scene

Steve Gariepy ’77 is at the peak of his game both in estate planning and on the Cleveland arts scene.

Gariepy, a partner at Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP and co-chair of the firm’s estate planning and business succession group, also serves on the boards of trustees for the Great Lakes Theater and the Cleveland International Piano Competition. He also is heavily involved with the Cleveland Museum of Art, for which he has chaired the planned giving council and continues on its executive committee.

Alumni News

Asim Z. Haque ’06 has been appointed to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) by Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich. Haque’s term began June 24 and will end April 10, 2016. Prior to the appointment, he served as assistant counsel at Honda North America, Inc. and previously served as an associate at Ice Miller LLP.

Sharon M. Fulop '90 was awarded the 2013 Ohio Glass Ceiling Award by the National Diversity Council. Fulop was recognized for her leadership, excellence, and accomplishments and was one of 22 recipients of this award in the State of Ohio. Fulop is a partner in the Toledo office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP.
