Dan Hawkins ’01: Serving Special Victims

Dan Hawkins ’01, director of the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, works on cases that grab headlines and grip hearts. Hawkins long had dreamed of becoming a police officer when he studied criminal justice at Bowling Green State University. Amanda Masters ’96 Fights for Fair Housing in NYC

As the perennial new kid, Amanda Masters ’96 grew up watching the way people treated strangers. As her family moved with her father’s career in the Air Force, she spent time thinking about the inequities she saw from one community to the next. “I lived in a variety of places, some of them more diverse than others,” she said. “So I think I always recognized how important it is to have integrated and diverse environments where people are treated fairly.” ››Read More

D.C. or Bust! Moritz Students Head to Nation’s Capital

Filtering through the halls of the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Energy, the Federal Communications Commission, and more than a dozen other government agencies and nonprofit organizations this summer were rising 2Ls from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Professor Peter Swire, director of the Moritz Washington, D.C., Summer Program, works on behalf of about 20 students each year to place them in externships compatible with their interests. “Finding that good match is important for both the student and the employer. The employer gets someone who is knowledgeable and motivated, and the student gets experience directly relatable to future employment goals,” Swire said. “I work hard to ensure that every externship is substantive. This is not secretarial work; the externship has to involve real work on legal and policy matters.” ››Hear From the Students

We asked Professors Chow, Carlarne, Tokaji, Deason, Stulberg, Chamallas, and Hoffer to recap “What I Did on My Summer Vacation.” ››Read What They Had to Say

Multimedia: Calling on Alumni

We are calling on alumni to contribute their own snapshots from law school days for our online gallery of historical photographs. Have shots of hanging around Drinko Hall and campus? Fun at a past Barrister’s Ball? In the heat of moot court competition or poring over the final edits on an upcoming law journal? We want to add them all to our Moritz family album. Send your pictures to Monica DeMeglio by e-mail at
