Moritz Launches Innovative Corporate Fellowship Program

This month, Moritz launched a new Corporate Fellowship Program, an innovative initiative that places new Moritz graduates within the general counsel offices of leading national corporations. The fellowships, which follow the judicial clerkship model, will match the specific needs of each corporate partner while putting recent graduates' top-flight training and ability to immediate use inside the legal departments of major companies. ››Read more

JDR Symposium Tackles Election Disputes

Although Bush v. Gore and, more recently, Coleman v. Franken, made apparent the problems associated with judicial resolution of disputed elections, procedures for unraveling electoral disagreements remain uncertain and time consuming at both state and federal levels. On Feb. 18, the Ohio State Journal on Dispute Resolution will host a symposium: “Talking the Vote: Facilitating Disputed Election Processes through ADR.” This symposium will examine the methods currently used to resolve electoral disputes, as well as the possibility of incorporating alternative dispute resolution techniques. ››Learn more and register

Liebman will Present Bodiker Lecture March 15

Even in the 38 U.S. states that have it, the death penalty is used by only a fairly small and shrinking number of counties. That number declines further if “use” means execution, not simply imposition, of death sentences. But if the penalty's benefits are realized by only a small number of counties, its costs and risks are borne by the entire state and, indeed, by the entire nation. Professor James S. Liebman will present this year’s David H. Bodiker Lecture on Criminal Justice on Tuesday, March 15 and discuss the use of the death penalty. ››Read more

preLaw Magazine Names Moritz Top 10 for Public Interest

Moritz was commended on its Public-Interest Law Program by preLaw magazine, which named the College in the Top 10 programs in the country and issued it an A grade. The College was commended for its faculty and staff who are committed to helping students passionate about careers in public interest, as well as its public-interest fellow designations, Judicial Externship Program, and the Justice for Children Project.

Erika L. Haupt ’94 was recently elected partner-in-charge of the Columbus office of Roetzel & Andress. Haupt has been a partner at Roetzel since joining the firm in 2004, and she focuses on wealth transfer and estate planning matters.

Jennifer McDaniel ’02 was named a “Rising Star” in the area of workers’ compensation in the 2011 edition of Ohio Super Lawyers. McDaniel is an associate in the Columbus office of Schottenstein Zox & Dunn.
