Phil Halley ’81: Wisconsin Top Ten Super Lawyer

Wisconsin may seem like an odd place for a devoted Buckeye fan; however, Phil Halley ’81 has done his best to make it home.

"On my bookshelf at work I have a replica of the Horseshoe and on my desk a Buckeye lamp my dad made," Halley said. "I have a longstanding agreement with one of my partners who graduated from Michigan. The winner of 'The Game' each year determines who buys lunch. I bought a lot of lunches in the 90s, but the last decade has been a good one." ››Read more

Despite Tough Job Market, Moritz Students Still Having Success

As we’re just a week away from the 2010 Hooding Ceremony, I would like to take a moment to highlight some of the accomplishments of our newly minted alumni. As you know, the recession has dealt a body blow to the legal job market. Yet our students continued to work extremely hard, stayed creative, and, with the help of our Career Services Office, had many successes entering the legal profession, with more to come. Career Services Announces New Program to Benefit Students and Employers

Career Services is launching a new initiative, Moritz Short-term Assistance Registry (STAR). STAR is designed to provide private-sector employers with a pool of qualified second- and third-year students and graduates from the class of 2010 to hire for assistance with short-term projects. The intent of the program is to provide students and recent graduates interested in firm or corporate counsel work an opportunity to obtain some practice experience. ››Read more

The Ohio National Statuary Collection Study Committee has nominated 10 prominent Ohioans to permanently represent Ohio in Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C. One of these nominees is William McCulloch, a 1925 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Law. ››Learn how to vote

Google Launches Government Requests Tool

Google recently announced the launch of its Government Requests Tool. The purpose of the tool is to provide information about the requests for user data or content removal that Google (and the Google-owned YouTube) receives from government agencies around the world. The web site contains a map, which can be ordered by requests for data or requests for content removal. Google is using data from July-December 2009 and intends to update the data in 6-month increments. ››Read more from Opinio Juris

Janica Pierce Tucker ’02 was appointed as a District 7 representative on the Ohio State Bar Association’s Council of Delegates for a two-year term beginning in July. The Council of Delegates is one of two major governing bodies of the statewide organization.

Sarah A. Cherry ’07 was named deputy legal counsel to the Ohio House of Representatives Majority Caucus.
