ABA Journal names professor’s blog in ‘best of’ list

Deborah Merritt

Deborah Merritt

Professor Deborah Jones Merritt’s Law School Café blog has been named to the ABA Journal's seventh annual "Blawg 100," a listing of the 100 best blogs for a legal audience as determined by the publication.

On the blog, Merritt, an award-winning scholar and teacher at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, discusses ideas for improving legal education. It covers innovations small and large, welcomes contributions from others, and reviews relevant books and articles. She is joined on the blog by Kyle McEntee, executive director of Law School Transparency.

The ABA Journal calls Merritt’s new blog, which is making its debut on the list, a “hub” and a resource for “facts to back up your opinions.”

Merritt joined the Ohio State faculty in 1995. Merritt has published widely on issues of equality, affirmative action, federalism, health and technology, legal education, tort reform, and law and social science. She previously served on the faculty at University of Illinois School of Law and as an associate at an Atlanta law firm. She also clerked for Judge (now Justice) Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court of the United States.

She has received several prominent awards, including The Ohio State University’s Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching (2009), Distinguished Scholar Award (2002), and Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award (2004). Merritt graduated from Harvard College summa cum laude in 1977 and from Columbia Law School in 1980. While at Columbia, she was managing editor of the Columbia Law Review.

Her blog is available at www.lawschoolcafe.org, and the complete list of the Blawg 100 is available at www.abajournal.com/blawg100.

The ABA Journal is the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association, and it is read by half of the nation's 1.1 million lawyers every month. It covers the trends, people and finances of the legal profession from Wall Street to Main Street to Pennsylvania Avenue. ABAJournal.com features breaking legal news updated as it happens by staff reporters throughout every business day, a directory of more than 3,600 lawyer blogs, and the full contents of the magazine.
