Clinic students take home prizes in business competition

Students from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law took top awards in a business project competition hosted by the Fisher College of Business this fall.

3Ls Nickolas Davidson and David Hodapp, students in the Entrepreneurial Business Law Clinic at Moritz, were among the more than 100 students who competed in ProjectOne, a project-based learning competition sponsored by Huntington Bank.

ProjectOne is a large development or implementation-level engagement sold to a major company with “brand name” recognition. The engagement is typically split into several smaller projects, and Project Team Consultants are organized into teams of four to six that work throughout the autumn semester on those small projects. At the end of the semester, the teams compete to sell the client on which ideas have the most impact and are implementable. Teams present their proposals in 25-minute sessions that are followed by a question-and-answer period. Judging was conducted by three Ohio State faculty members, including Moritz’s own Assistant Clinical Professor of Law Charles Lee Thomason, and senior executives from Huntington.

Hodapp was voted Best Presenter in the competition from 36 students in one of three project tracks. Davidson’s team, which included 2L Ryan Harmanis, was judged the top team in its project competition. The team prize will be a lunch with a few members of senior management at Huntington in their executive dining hall.
