Foremost thinkers on race, sexuality featured at conference

The public is invited to the conference on Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice when it arrives at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law on Oct. 26.

Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice is a multipart conference taking place at multiple universities, including the Santa Clara University School of Law, The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, The University of Maryland Carey School of Law, and Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. The conversation at the center of the conference will explore the connections between and among race, sexuality, and social justice, all broadly defined, in order to foster new knowledge and fresh scholarship, as well as concrete interventions for progressives to explore in politics, society, and under law.

The second part of the conference – at the Moritz College of Law – will feature some of the nation’s foremost thinkers on race and sexual equality during a daylong event. Panel discussions will focus on topics of interest to those concerned with social, political and legal equality. For more information, including a list of speakers, and to register, please visit the conference website here.

"This event is part of a larger, multi-university conference that seeks to address a series of cutting-edge issues in law and politics at the intersection of two modern civil rights movements: the ongoing struggles for race equality and the struggles for equality along sexual orientation and gender lines. Of course, to discuss these topics also raises important questions about gender and class and other forms of social discrimination," said Marc Spindelman, Isadore and Ida Topper Professor of Law and co-convener of the Race, Sexuality, and Social Justice conference. "The speakers at the conference include leaders from the critical race theory and sexual equality movements, as well as social justice feminism. They include both law and humanities scholars of national and international renown and leading advocates from the front lines of politics."

CLE credits are available, and a complete breakdown of pricing is available on the conference registration page. Please register by Oct. 19.

In addition to the Moritz College of Law, co-sponsors include: The Center for Interdisciplinary Law and Policy Studies, The Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, and The Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
