Student commons project on schedule

The Dinsmore & Shohl Student Commons project is on track for construction to begin this spring, and artistic renderings recently released provide a good idea of what the new space will look like when it opens for students this fall.

The existing student locker area – the last major portion of Drinko Hall to be renovated – will be transformed with new flooring, ceilings, mailboxes, furniture, and, of course, lockers. The project is being funded entirely by donations from Moritz alumni at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and a matching gift from the firm.

Bruce Johnson, associate dean for information services, said the committee overseeing the project has settled on flooring, fabrics, paint colors, and finishes. The group still has to pick out furniture for the new space, which is why the artistic rendering is not an exact replication of how the new student commons will be when finished.

“Everything is on track for us to start after exams and finish before the start of fall semester,” Johnson said. “It’s coming along nicely.”
