Alum and Adjunct Professor Jeffrey Sutton Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences
The Honorable Jeffrey S. Sutton ‘90 has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Founded in 1780, the Academy is a prestigious honors society that recognizes excellence across a range of disciplines. Members are invited to participate in the Academy’s work of “engaging across disciplines and divides to address serious challenges and advance the common good.” Sutton is one of 250 outstanding individuals across the country elected this year.
Sutton currently serves as the chief judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Previously, he was a partner with Jones Day and served as State Solicitor of the State of Ohio. In his career as an advocate, Sutton argued twelve cases in the United States Supreme Court and numerous cases in the state supreme courts and federal courts of appeal. He also was a law clerk to the Honorable Lewis F. Powell, Jr., the Honorable Antonin Scalia, and the Honorable Thomas J. Meskill. At Moritz, he teaches seminars on State Constitutional Law, the United States Supreme Court, and Appellate Advocacy.
