The Ohio State Technology Law Journal presents its 2025 symposium: Cybersecurity Law and Policy in Transition. This event will take place at the Moritz College of Law in Saxbe Auditorium on Thursday, April 3, 2025. This year’s symposium will be focused on cybersecurity, bringing together leading experts from law, policy, and technology to discuss the pressing challenges and emerging trends within the field. Our goal is to foster a robust discussion on how legal frameworks can adapt to the rapidly changing cyber threat environment. The symposium will feature three panels and a keynote speaker. There will also be an option to watch via Zoom. A tentative schedule of the symposium follows:

9:15 am- Keynote: Erie Meyer, Chief Technology Officer, U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
10:00 am- Panel 1: The Future of Cybersecurity During Presidential Transition
Panelists will discuss areas such key national cybersecurity strategies, regulatory shifts, and responses to emerging threats, including election security, and cyber defense infrastructure, as the presidential administration transitions.

This panel will explore the complex intersection of global data privacy laws and cybersecurity risks. Panelists will examine conflicts between cybersecurity measures and privacy regulations, the challenges of cross-border data transfers, and the legal frameworks governing international data flows. With differing data protection laws across jurisdictions, this discussion will highlight the legal, regulatory, and security implications for governments, businesses, and individuals navigating an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.

Panelists will discuss legal accountability for AI-driven cybersecurity breaches, strategies for protecting intellectual property and sensitive data in AI systems, and evolving regulatory perspectives. The discussion will also highlight AI’s role in threat detection and prevention, addressing both its potential and the risks associated with its deployment in cybersecurity frameworks.
