Criminal Defense Clinic
Criminal Defense Clinic
You will represent individuals accused of low-level felony crimes. To prepare for representing clients, you’ll undergo rigorous training on conducting client interviews, negotiating with opposing counsel, and performing various trial skills such as conducting voir dire, cross-examining witnesses, and preparing and delivering opening statements and closing arguments. This training helps you develop the expertise necessary to achieve the best possible results for your clients.
Work Closely with Professors to Hone Your Advocacy Skills
In addition to casework, students meet twice a week with the expert professor, delving into the profound impacts of criminal justice policies. Each class session provides practical training, strategic discussions, innovative reform ideas, and skill-sharpening simulations.
Your journey extends beyond the classroom with immersive community experiences—ride alongside police, observe different courtroom practices, and tour jails. Reflect on these encounters in enriching class discussions.
Regardless of pursuing defense or other legal avenues in your professional career, the clinic's teachings remain invaluable, guiding every legal endeavor you undertake.
