Main Library Renovation
The Thompson (Main) Library is closing September 17 for a three-year renovation. The Library’s services, collections and staff are being moved to the Sullivant Library and the temporary Ackerman Library, which will open September 15. Services through OSU Libraries and OhilLINK will otherwise continue as normal with extended hours and services being offered at other OSU libraries. Please visit the Thompson Library Renovation website for additional information.
OSU ID Replaces SSN for Faculty/Staff Access
Beginning this summer, OSU faculty and staff will need to use their eight-digit University ID number, rather than their Social Security number, to place or cancel requests, or renew materials, in the OSU Libraries catalog and the OhioLINK catalog. This change is part of the ongoing process of reducing the use of Social Security numbers due to privacy concerns.
Business Source Complete
Business Source Complete compiles, according to their description, “far more active, peer-reviewed, business related journals than any other database currently available.” This database provides access to over 1,200 business journals, some dating as far back as 1886. Many of the journal articles in this database are provided in full text, as well as other materials including financial data, books and investment research reports. You can either search through the various journals using the simple and familiar keyword search box (an advance search is also available if you desire), or you can use the tabs towards the top of the database to browse company profiles, author profiles or publications.
New Ohio Attorney Conduct Rules and Court Rules
"The Supreme Court of Ohio has adopted new professional conduct rules for attorneys that provide greater protection for clients' rights and help ensure the professional delivery of legal services." Some of the changes cover enhanced communications with clients, more detailed record-keeping, and client confidentiality. The full version of the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct and other related documents can be viewed here.
Amended Ohio Civil Rules, Criminal Rules, Evidence Rules, Juvenile Rules and Traffic Rules, effective July 1, 2006, have been posted on the Ohio Supreme Court's Ohio Rule's of Court website.
Famous Trials Website
Douglas O. Linder, Professor of Law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, has created the Famous Trials website. The site covers numerous famous trials and includes links to documents and other relevant information. The trials include historic trials such as the trials of Socrates, Thomas More, John Brown and Oscar Wilde. More recent trials such as the Clinton Impeachment, the O.J. Simpson trial, and the Zacarias Moussaoui trial are also included.
AlltheWeb: Live Searching Feature
AlltheWeb has a live searching feature that reports results as you type. It's interesting to see how the results change as search terms are added. This is a great way to figure out what works and doesn't work when you're having a hard time coming up with search terms.
