Technical Tips - AntiSpam handling in Outlook 2010 Exchange

OSU OIT will switch AntiSpam control to a product that works on the Exchange (email) server on September 22, 2012.  You may read more about the product and implementation here.

If you were controlling your spam through the old program antispam.osu.edu, you may notice an increase of spam in your inbox and in your junk mailbox.  Spam will be managed through the Outlook junk mail features.

If you receive an email that you know is junk:
OUTLOOK -

From Inbox: Right click on the email and go to Junk Description: cid:image002.jpg@01CD86C5.F1EEF0E0 and choose block sender.  This will move the mail to the junk mail folder and  add the senders email address to the blocked senders list in Outlook.  You will still need to delete the message from the junk folder.

Within a Message: Click on the down arrow to the right of the Junk icon on the Message Tab. Outlook Message - Junk IconChoose to block sender. You will still need to delete the message from the junk folder.

Outlook Webmail – Right click on the email and go to Junk email  choose to add sender to blocked sender’s list.  Description: cid:image001.png@01CD86C4.978A2EE0

If you receive an email that is in the junk folder but NOT junk:
OUTLOOK - Right click on the email and go to junk – not junk.  This will move the message to the Inbox and add the senders email address to the safe senders list in Outlook.

Outlook Webmail - Right click on the email and go to junk email – Mark as not junk.  This will bring up a popup box advising you it will move the message to the Inbox and give you an option to always trust email from that sender (adds to safe senders list).

NOTE:  Your Junk email lists are synchronized between Outlook on your computer and Outlook webmail.
