Law students have a wealth of choices when it comes to living in privately owned housing. The location of the Ohio State campus, and specifically the Moritz College of Law, allows convenient access to many large and small apartment complexes with varying costs and amenities. Nearby Columbus Neighborhoods Popular with Moritz Students

Students who relocate to Columbus and who wish to purchase a home will find that real estate costs compare very favorably to other large cities. Such students may choose to live in historic districts, such as German Village or Victorian Village, or in suburbs located only a few minutes from the Ohio State campus. However, there are a number of areas in which a majority of law students reside because of the variety convenient and affordable housing options. These are listed below for your consideration.

University District

The University District is the area directly surrounding the Ohio State campus and the Moritz College of Law. This area is considered to be within walking distance to law school. The area primarily consists of both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a small population of long-term residents. There are several duplexes and homes available for rent as well as a number of small and medium-sized apartment complexes. Located approximately 1.5 miles north of the Moritz College of Law, Clintonville is comprised of six square miles of land and is home to approximately 30,000 residents. Many long-time residents call Clintonville home, as well as young professionals and graduate students. Clintonville consists of privately owned homes, numerous duplexes, and some smaller apartment complexes. Most homes and apartments were built in the 1930-40s. Clintonville offers conveniently located community features, such as grocery stores and parks. The COTA bus service runs every five to 10 minutes on High Street from Clintonville to Moritz.

Victorian Village

Located approximately 1.2 miles southwest of the OSU campus, the Victorian Village area encompasses West Fifth Avenue on the north, Goodale Boulevard on the south, Harrison Avenue on the west, and High Street on the east. Victorian Village includes private homes as well as houses that have been divided into separate living quarters, which are available for rent. Victorian Village has a nice mix of home owners and OSU students. Located in the middle of the neighborhood is Goodale Park which is perfect for walks and jogging. Victorian Village offers features such as COTA bus stops located primarily on High Street with direct service to the law school. Grocery stores and other conveniences are located within the immediate vicinity of the neighborhood.

Italian Village

Italian Village is southeast of the OSU campus area. This area, very similar to Victorian Village, is a bike ride or quick bus ride away. Italian Village is also made up of many older, Victorian style homes and a number of duplex buildings. A large population of OSU graduate students and young professionals reside in this area.

Arena District

The Arena District is a newer area, located southwest of the University district. It is a quick bus or car ride away. The Arena District is a trendy area, with newer apartment buildings, including many high-end lofts, which are close to restaurants, shops, and night life. Residents primarily include young professionals.

Upper Arlington

Located approximately three miles northwest of campus, Upper Arlington is bounded by Fifth Avenue on the south, Henderson Road on the north, Route 33 on the west, and Kenny Road on the east. Upper Arlington is home to approximately 36,000 residents and is one of Columbus' most established suburbs. Upper Arlington offers a select number of rental opportunities. Residents of Upper Arlington enjoy conveniently located shopping areas, COTA bus stops, and, for law students with school age children, an excellent school system.


Located approximately 2.5 miles southwest of campus, the Grandview area is home to many law students. The approximate boundaries of the Grandview area are as follows: King Avenue on the north, Goodale Boulevard on the south, Olentangy River on the east, and Cambridge Boulevard on the west. A variety of affordable rental opportunities are available in the Grandview area, with community features such as conveniently located shopping areas, parks, and COTA bus stops. Grandview and the surrounding area are attractive for students looking for a variety of affordable and centrally located rental opportunities.
