Fall 2015:

9/10/15: After Marriage
The Supreme Court ruled on June 26, 2015, that marriage equality was the law of the land. A panel of experts discussed Obergefell v. Hodges, with a focus on what comes next for the LGBT community. What will be the fate of the alternative family structures that were created by LGBT couples who sought protections in the absence of marriage? What does marriage equality mean for anti-discrimination laws in other contexts? Panelists included Professor Ruth Colker; Lori Gum, program and pride coordinator of Stonewall Columbus; Karla Rothan, executive director of Stonewall Columbus; and Angie Wellman, intercultural specialist, LGBTQ Student Initiatives at The Ohio State University Multicultural Center. Over 150 people, both from the Moritz and greater Ohio State community, attended the event.

After Marriage


11/3/15: Trans* 101
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, Trans 101 answered some of the most common questions about trans* issues. This panel discussion and Q&A explored transgender experiences, identities, and narratives. The event also covered basic terminology and allyship dos and don’ts, and panelists shared personal stories.

Panelists included Grant Stancliff, Equality Ohio; Liam Gallagher, volunteer coordinator for Stonewall Columbus; Captain Lana Moore, Columbus Division of Fire, National Board of Directors – GLAAD; and Jody Davis, The Ohio State University Medical Center. This event was co-sponsored by OutLaws and the American Constitution Society. Over 100 people, both from the Moritz community and the greater Columbus community, attended this event.

2/5/16: Happy Hour at Union Cafe
Join other LGBT/allied OSU post-undergrads after work for a round of drinks and eats during happy hours. Make friends and have fun. Union Café starting at 6PM on Friday, February 5th. If you can’t find our table, remember to ask one of the waiters. All are welcome including LGBT-identified and allied students, colleagues and employees from OSU! Feel free to invite your friends. Hosted by Grad Queers, OSU Wexner Medical Center LGBT Diversity Network, Out in Business, OutLaws, and the Scarlet and Gay Alumni Association.

2/11/16: Bar Review – OutLawing Valentine’s Day
OutLaws hosted a very successful Bar Review at Union Café on February 11, 2016. Over 150 students came out to celebrate the event.

2/25/16: Issues and Advocacy in the Trans* Community
Melissa Alexander, J.D., from TransOhio will be speaking to OutLaws on what some of the current issues are for the trans* community and how we can get involved in advocacy work as law students. It will be held in Room 348 at lunch.

March 2016: Elections

May 5/13 – 5/15/16: 8th Annual TransOhio Symposium OutLaws will be a cosponsor of the 8th annual TransOhio Symposium. It will be held May 13 – 15, 2016 at the Ohio Union at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. OutLaws is looking for volunteers to staff Providers’ Day on May 13th. This is an excellent networking opportunity with the greater Columbus LGBT-friendly legal community.
