The Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA) seeks to provide an academic forum for educating and discussing legal issues as they pertain to social, political and economic developments in the Middle East.
MELSA seeks to be the voice of Middle Eastern students at Moritz, but does not limit its membership to Middle Eastern students. In fact, the majority of MELSA members are non-Middle Eastern students who are interested in Middle Eastern issues.
In past years, MELSA has directed a mentoring program, hosted talks on human rights in Iran and other countries, held a debate on the role of international law in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, held a Middle Eastern Food sale, hosted an Annual Banquet and lunches with prominent jurists of Middle Eastern descent, and organized the Children of War Panel, which consists of a panel of students sharing their personal accounts of growing up in a country torn apart by war.
