This is an amazing resource that has never been publicly available before. It includes notes and testimony from the various participants in this famous Supreme Court case. Anyone interested in the history of special education law in the United States should devote time exploring these archives.
Some of the news reports have focused on the need to improve public health so that those who suffer from various kinds of mental illness can receive better treatment. I certainly agree on the importance of everyone, including those with mental illness, receiving high quality health care. But I would also note that it is important that we ask ourselves how we, as members of society, help construct disability through our response to those who we perceive as “different.”

The APA has not yet published their revised criteria for the definition of learning disabilities. I hope their revisions take into account the comments we offered in June 2012. The final revisions are to be published in May 2013.
