<description>&lt;p&gt;On Tuesday, Nov. 17, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will deliver a keynote address at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Scalia&amp;rsquo;s speech will culminate a daylong symposium entitled &amp;ldquo;Originalism and the Jury,&amp;rdquo; organized by the Ohio State Law Journal and cosponsored by the Moritz College of Law and the University of Illinois College of Law.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<description>&lt;p&gt;On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Ohio State University Moritz College of Law Professor Deborah Jones Merritt argued a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. The court, in &lt;i&gt;Reed Elsevier v. Muchnick&lt;/i&gt;, is expected to determine whether a provision in the Copyright Act prevents federal jurisdiction for claims of unregistered copyrights. Professor Merritt, who&amp;nbsp;argued for the first time before the U.S. Supreme Court, was hand-selected by the Court to defend the lower court ruling.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

Each first-year class consists of approximately 220-230 students. Enrollment is limited to full-time study and new law students may begin only in the autumn semester. It is important to note that while The Ohio State University runs on a quarter system, the law school runs on a semester system, starting in August and ending in May each year.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

Among other matters, Professor Swire will be working on housing and housing finance issues.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<title>Cocroft '00 Begins Judgeship in Franklin County</title>

<description>&lt;p&gt;Kim Cocroft &amp;rsquo;00 is two months into her judgeship with the Franklin County, Ohio, Court of Common Pleas. It&amp;rsquo;s a position that Cocroft said she was unsure she would ever have the opportunity to hold. &amp;ldquo;I didn&amp;rsquo;t know or believe I would be able to attain this position,&amp;rdquo; she said. Cocroft applied to be a judge because she knew she was capable of fulfilling the position. &amp;ldquo;Never self exclude,&amp;rdquo; she said. &amp;ldquo;Let someone else tell you you&amp;rsquo;re not qualified.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

<title>Colker Designated Distinguished University Professor</title>

<description>&lt;p&gt;Ruth Colker, the Heck Faust Chair in Constitutional Law at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, is one of the most influential figures in the field of disability law in the United States. Her scholarly work has influenced the United States Supreme Court and the U.S. Congress alike. At the same time, she has contributed path-breaking empirical and theoretical scholarship to the field of disability legal studies and also has maintained a record of innovative teaching and substantial service.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Colker was recently designated a 2009 Distinguished University Professor, the University&amp;rsquo;s highest academic honor.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
