Summer Preparation/Welcome Packet Information
(posted May 26, 2010)
Please review the academic calendar, which contains holidays, exam periods, and the dates for the start of classes and for graduation.
You are REQUIRED to register for classes before the end of the day on Tuesday, August 10. Please schedule an individual meeting with me for no later than Monday, August 9 or Tuesday, August 10. During this time we will be establishing your course schedule for the year. Past experience indicates that the meeting will last at least 60 minutes; it may take longer. Please use the following links to access the materials you will need to prepare for this meeting:
- 2010-11 Course Descriptions
- Fall 2010 Course List (includes days and times)
- Winter 2011 Course List (includes days and times)

MANDATORY LL.M. orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 11 through Friday, August 13. You are also expected to attend the general Moritz orientation with J.D. students on Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17. You will not be allowed to attend classes if you have not participated in these orientation sessions. The first day of classes is Thursday, August 19.
You should plan on arriving 5-10 days in advance of orientation to settle into your new home away from home. Be sure to check with prospective landlords to determine which utilities (such as electricity, gas, phone, cable TV, etc.) are provided (if any); you may need to use the contact information below for setting up these services. After you have reviewed this information, if you would like to provide us with no more than five sample locations, we would be happy to offer our personal opinion on them; we will not be able to accommodate requests to view the apartments in person for you. If you are interested in sharing a room with one of your classmates, please let us know and we’ll put people into contact with each other.

If you need hotel accommodations while you are looking for an apartment, we recommend The Blackwell, which is on the OSU campus. We have negotiated a special rate of $115 per night; please use the code “LAWST” when making your reservation at 011-614-247-4000. There are other, less expensive, hotels in the area, but The Blackwell is within walking distance (15 minutes) of Drinko Hall/Moritz College, and is on both the city and campus buslines (see below).
Please note: OSU students may ride the city bus service, called “COTA,” for free. You may want to choose an apartment on one of the COTA routes. Within the OSU campus, free bus service is provided by “CABS.” You may note in the Housing Information Guide that the Buckeye Village apartment complex in particular is served by both the CABS and COTA systems; additionally, University Village apartment complex offers its own shuttle to campus. We have also included information on obtaining an Ohio driver’s license and obtaining an OSU parking permit.
