OSJCL launches new, first-of-its-kind, Amici: Views from the Field
The Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law is very pleased to announce the launch of OSJCL Amici: Views from the Field, our new, first-of-its-kind, online “practitioners’ commentary.” This resource is designed to engage the practicing community of prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys, judges, and scholars in allied disciplines in a dialogue with students, academics, and the public about cutting edge issues in the world of criminal law.
Our inaugural “issue,” available here, is composed of short commentaries and essays, written by four leading federal district court judges, on the impact (expected or unexpected) of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent blockbuster federal sentencing decisions in Gall v. United States and Kimbrough v. United States. We hope that the timeliness and informality of the commentaries showcase both the judiciary’s expansive insight on this topic and the value of this Web-based venue.
In addition to providing a publication venue for leading practitioners, OSJCL Amici provides a “clearinghouse” of all-things-Criminal-Law: interesting ,thought-provoking, or humorous criminal justice-related news stories; links to databases and other Web-based sources that practitioners may find relevant and useful; and “SCOTUS CrimeWatch,” a database specializing in the criminal law docket for the current Supreme Court term.
We actively encourage you to visit OSJCL Amici, and share with us your practice-gleaned insights. We can be reached at berman.43@osu.edu (Faculty Editor, Professor Doug Berman), shnlittle@earthlink.net (OSJCL Editor-in-Chief), or maurer.128@osu.edu (Executive Editor, OSJCL).
