I/S symposium to focus on broadband issues

The Federal Communication Commission’s 2010 National Broadband Plan asserted that broadband – high-speed Internet access beyond the capacities of dial-up – “is a foundation for economic growth, job creation, global competitiveness and a better way of life.” Its proliferation, however, also poses key legal and public policy challenges as nations seek to capitalize on the potential for innovation that broadband can unlock and identify and prevent practices that threaten economic competition.

“Competition and Innovation in the Broadband Age,” a symposium to be held March 22 at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, seeks to explore these issues in three contexts – telecom regulation, cloud computing, and search technology. A final panel also will discuss the impact of foreign competition policy on U.S. high-tech industries.

Join keynote speaker Christopher S. Yoo, founding director of the University of Pennsylvania Law School Center for Technology, Innovation & Competition, and other industry leaders for a multidisciplinary discussion on the broadband industry. Topics to be covered include:competition and innovation in the U.S. broadband industry;competition, innovation, and cloud computing; competition and innovation in search; and foreign competition policy and U.S. high-tech industries.
