Professor John Quigley will participate as a panelist in a public policy forum sponsored by the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. The forum is designed to discuss the legality of the Iraq War, and the issue torturing detainees. Quigley is expected to give an analysis of a letter the Bush Administration sent to the United Nations at the beginning of the military action. The forum will be in Room 2141 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C.
Three other panelists will address the theory of preventative self-defense and the legality of various actions, in particular methods of interrogation.
Professor Quigley is well-known for his expertise in international law, which, along with comparative law, he teaches at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Before joining the Ohio State faculty in 1969, Professor Quigley was a research scholar at Moscow State University, and a research associate in comparative law at Harvard Law School. Professor Quigley holds an adjunct appointment in the Political Science Department. In 1982-83 he was a visiting professor at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
