Professor Douglas Berman was quoted on the front page of The New York Times Saturday in a story about states postponing executions until after the Supreme Court rules on a case regarding the use of lethal injections. “There is a momentum quality to this,” said Douglas A. Berman, a law professor at Ohio State University who has a blog, Sentencing Law and Policy. “Not only the Supreme Court granting the stay, but also the Alabama governor doing a reprieve that is likely to lead to other states with executions on the horizon waiting to see what the Supreme Court does. I’ll be surprised if many, and arguably if any states other than Texas, go through with executions this year.”
Berman has been quoted widely since the Supreme Court announced that it would hear the case, including being featured on NBC Nightly News.
He was quoted when the story broke in The New York Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, BBC News, the New York Sun, and the Lexington Herald Leader.
He also was quoted in several follow-up stories regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to take the case. An Associated Press story that he was quoted in made The Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Seattle Times. He also was quoted in stories in the Houston Chronicle and The Dallas Morning News.
