Beyond the politics of Syria
In a blog post Sunday, Professor Peter M. Shane goes beyond the political debates surrounding potential military action in Syria and explains why President Obama’s pursuit of congressional authority for a stike is “his single most important decision in reshaping the post-9/11 presidency.”
Shane makes short order of explaining how Obama has power under the Constitution to act unilaterally and why the president’s move for congressional authority is “a very big deal” in constitutional politics and the possible implications for U.S. foreign policy when situations arise in other countries, such as Iran.
