Parking On-Campus, PLUS How to Get Around Campus & Columbus
Though Columbus does have a public transportation system, you should be aware that it is not quite as comprehensive as you may be used to, especially if you come from a big city. Most students will not opt to buy a car, but will rather travel by bus or on foot.
OSU students may ride the city bus service, called “COTA” for free. (All students are charged a small fee as part of their tuition). You can learn more about COTA routes and schedules at their website.
Within the OSU campus, free bus service is provided by “CABS.” You will note in the Housing Information Guide that the Buckeye Village apartment complex in particular is served by BOTH the CABS and COTA systems; additionally, University Village apartment complex offers its own shuttle to campus.
For those who are considering purchasing a car, please review the Cultural Awareness section in the LL.M. Student Handbook, which discusses tips on purchase, insurance requirements, and license requirements. Also, here is information on obtaining an Ohio driver’s license.
Students who live off-campus and will be driving to the university are eligible to buy a parking permit from the Campus Parc office at OSU. The OSU Campus Parc website below will allow you to see what permits you are eligible for (you will have to choose your category in the drop down menus). We suggest that you study the website below and see what permit is more convenient to you. Feel free to contact the Campus Parc office directly (or go in person) if you have any doubts about what permit better fits your needs.
