Take it to the Schools

In connection with our Symposium, the Ohio State Law Journal embarked on a community outreach event. Members of the Journal went to public high schools in the Columbus area and taught the students about the history of school desegregation and the recent Supreme Court case that struck down the voluntary integration plans in Seattle and Louisville. Our goal was to reach out to those who are really affected by these decisions and to get their opinion on the importance of school desegregation.

These high school students then had the opportunity to participate in an essay competition. The purpose of the essay was to hear about the problem of school segregation in our public schools from a student’s perspective. The top three essay authors received a small cash prize, and the winning essay will be published in the Ohio State Law Journal’s Symposium issue.
